Sorry if I wasn't clear in my explanation. But they have a workaround, which is to install the full version of their VPN program. It's because the extension sandbox in Google Chrome doesn't allow them to override DNS resolutions. Indeed, domain queries were going out unencrypted which is why I could see them in Wireshark when using the TunnelBear browser extension alone. I have found the answer after speaking with TunnelBear support and got their confirmation.
